Ka Pai Kaiti celebrate a new launch in December 2014

After a quiet year, Ka Pai Kaiti has revitalised itself with new Trustees, a new community space and services, all centred in the Kaiti Mall.

Kaiti Tū Kaiti Ora
8am – 1pm on Saturday 13 December 2014

Summer in Kaiti kicks off with a celebratory event, during the Kaiti Mall markets, at the Kaiti Mall.

Information and stalls with Te Wananga o Aotearoa, YOLO Events, The Design School, East Coast Vibes and Te Papawhariki will all be there to celebrate this unifying event in Kaiti.

The vision for this space, which was previously the Mana Party Headquarters, is to provide a 24 hour 7 days a week community centre for the residents of Kaiti and the Gisborne district.

During the lead up to the 2014 election, the Mana Party and Ringa Tuwhera Trust occupied the site at Kaiti Mall. They provided services such as a Food, Clothing and Furniture Bank, sending out nearly 2, 000 food parcels. They operated a Kaumatua Drop In centre where our elderly could stop in for a cuppa or just a chat. A soup kitchen was provided for the homeless, and advocacy for the needy. The Mana party activators supported various community initiatives, so when the idea of merging with Ka Pai Kaiti was proposed, it seemed like a natural way to grow our joint community services.  Several of the volunteers behind the Mana Party have come on board as Trustees, and Tuta Ngarimu is currently our acting manager.

There will be a strong focus on being available during the 2 week holiday period (Xmas to New Years), a vulnerable time for families. Members of our community will have access to reliable networks, such as Te Kupenga Net Trust, Aged Concern, Te Ara Tika (Gamble-Free Service), and more (to be advised).  Ka Pai Kaiti will have volunteers available throughout the holiday period, should whanau need assistance.
